Indianapolis Colts’ kicker Spencer Shrader was named the AFC special teams player of the month following his performance in September.
With the Colts’ red zone offense sputtering at times, Shrader had his fair share of opportunities in the first four games of the season.
On extra points, he was a perfect 12-for-12. Then, on field goal attempts, Shrader was 13-of-14, which includes making four field goals in Week 1 and five in Week 2.
Among Shrader’s made kicks are three from 40-plus yards and a game-winner against Denver.
Shrader’s 14 field goal attempts and 13 makes lead the NFL through four weeks, according to PFF.
Despite Shrader’s relative inexperience coming off a rookie season in 2024 in which he had just nine attempts while playing for three different teams, the Colts were bullish on what they saw from him.
This resulted in Indianapolis moving on from veteran kicker Matt Gay during the offseason.
Since then, Shrader has proven GM Chris Ballard right in his decision-making.
