Thunderstorms and heavy rain could drench Western New York and the Finger Lakes Region Monday afternoon and evening, with a chance that some storms may turn severe.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the strongest storm activity is expected between 2 and 8 p.m., moving eastward from far western New York into the Finger Lakes.

Weather Service Meteorologist Tony Ansuini said there’s a 60% to 70% chance for storms and showers on the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 22, with between a quarter-inch to half-inch of rain possible.
According to Weather Service data, that’s more than the fifth of an inch that’s fallen to date in Rochester in September.
There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms, primarily in extreme far western New York, where strong, gusty winds are the main threat.
The Buffalo area and counties in western New York closest to Lake Erie expect the biggest risk of severe weather, Ansuini said.
“The main thing is another round of beneficial showers,” he said.
Unsettled weather will continue into Tuesday, with several rounds of showers and scattered storms possible throughout the day.
There’s a chance for showers daily through Friday, Ansuini said.
Outside Monday, the best chance for showers and thunderstorms through Western New York is currently on Thursday, Sept. 25.
