Section 4 Class C Semifinals
2-Elmira Notre Dame 2, 3-Bainbridge-Guilford 2 (END advances on PKs)
Notre Dame won the second five-round penalty-kick shootout, 1-0, after the teams finished 3-3 in the first set of PKs.
Notre Dame (10-3): MK Young made it 1-1 with a goal with 21:50 left in regulation; Ellie Green made is 2-2 off a Young assist with 4:24 to play in regulation. Scorers for END in first set of PKs were Green, Rose Daly and Mira Maxwell. Sadie Potter was only scorer in second set of PKs.
Bainbridge-Guilford: Breanna Casey 2 goals. Scorers for B-G in first set of PKs were Kamry Patten, Keelan Ammon and Casey.
Crusaders will play Groton in the sectional final at 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at Sidney High School.

Groton: Devyn Blasz scored in overtime as the Red Hawks topped top-seeded Trumansburg.

Watkins Glen 4, Oneonta 3 (OT)
WG: Michaela Wheaton scored the winning goal with 1:13 left in overtime. Ava Kelly 2 goals, Olivia King 1 goal; Natalie VanSkiver, Rachel Vickio assists; Emma Cady 12 saves.
The Lake Hawks will play Chenango Forks in the championship game at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 1 at Chenango Valley.
Said WG coach Scott Morse: “It was another incredibly resilient effort tonight to get the win in double-overtime. In a strange game where we made several uncharacteristic mistakes, it would have been easy for the girls to get down and let it slip away, but they didn’t. They showed tremendous heart and gave it their all to get a huge win on the road to earn the right to play for the sectional title.”

Third-seeded Waverly will play top-seeded Maine-Endwell in the championship game at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at Chenango Valley’s stadium field.
Said Waverly coach Tara Hogan: “In the last two weeks we have focused on recovering, keeping morale high, and working in two scrimmages vs. two formidable teams (Elmira and Horseheads). Those teams helped us prepare for tonight.
“We tried a few new lineups against those teams, but we stuck with what we know best. … Overall our first half was excellent. We played with confidence and composure.”

WG: Ava Kelly scored the lone goal off an assist from Michaela Wheaton with 15:07 remaining as the Lake Hawks (12-3) sent Trumansburg (12-1-1) to its first loss. Emma Cady had 4 saves.
Said Watkins Glen coach Scott Morse: “It’s always special to win a league championship, but this one means a lot. Last year we graduated several all-star players and I think people counted this team out. To watch them work so hard, support one another, and succeed has been incredible.”

Watkins Glen will play Trumansburg in the IAC Large School final at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at Tompkins Cortland Community College.

“In the midfield, Makenna Kempton, Ruby Squire and Keana Mann controlled the pace of the game and connected play beautifully. Younger players stepped up when we needed them most, showing poise and determination. Brynna Walsh left her mark as well, making key contributions that helped turn the momentum in our favor.”

Playing with no subs we definitely were gassed when it came to overtime, but the girls brought what energy they had left to try and scrape out a win.”

Said O-M coach Sage Garrison: “Great to get a nice win to start off the season. Proud of the girls. They stepped up on the field ready to play and brought good energy, moved the ball well, and communicated throughout the game. Thomas Edison played hard and created some dangerous scoring opportunities when our legs got heavy, but we were able to clean some of them up.”
