After three weeks of Indiana high school girls soccer competition, we’ve seen some outstanding performances. This season, IndyStar is honoring Indiana’s top athletes with our Player of the Week polls.
Congratulations to Roncalli’s Selah Roach on being voted Player of the Week for Aug. 30-Sept. 5! The freshman midfielder scored both goals in Roncalli’s 2-1 win over Bishop Chatard on Sept. 2. Roncalli finished last week 2-1 after a 1-0 victory over Franklin on Aug. 30 and a 4-3 loss to Columbus North on Sept. 5. Roach leads Roncalli (4-5-1) with four goals this season.
Voting for Player of the Week for Sept. 8-13 opens Tuesday and closes Friday at noon. Cast your vote in the poll at the bottom of the article.
Here are the top performers from last week (Aug. 30-Sept.5).
Lauryn Dolvin, Heritage Christian
The senior forward had four goals last week, including a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Lutheran on Sept. 4. Her other goal came in a 4-2 loss against Brebeuf on Sept. 2. Dolvin has helped lead the Eagles to a 4-3 record with 10 goals this season.
Selah Roach, Roncalli
The freshman midfielder scored both goals in Roncalli’s 2-1 win over Bishop Chatard on Sept. 2. Roncalli finished last week 2-1 after a 1-0 victory over Franklin on Aug. 30 and a 4-3 loss to Columbus North on Sept. 5. Roach leads Roncalli (4-3-1) with four goals this season.
Emma Parsons, Switzerland County
The senior forward had five goals and two assists last week to propel Switzerland County to a 3-0 record in Matchweek 3. Parsons also added two assists. Parsons is ranked No. 49 in the nation in goals scored with 14 on the season. Thanks to Parsons, Switzerland is 5-1 this season.
Eva Whitmyer, North Central
Last week, the junior goalie posted two clean sheets in North Central’s 2-0 victory over Lawrenceburg on Aug. 30 and a 1-0 win against Sheridan on Sept. 5. Whitmyer’s only allowed goal came in a 1-0 loss to Cathedral (9-0). An elite goalie, Whitmyer has allowed six goals this season and has three shutouts in seven games.
Sloane May, Hamilton Southeastern
The senior forward scored two goals and had two assists last week. May’s two assists came in a 9-0 victory over Noblesville on Aug. 30. May added a goal in HSE’s 4-0 win over Avon on Sept. 3 and 6-0 victory over Plainfield on Sept. 5. The All-American has helped lead the Royals to a 9-0 record this season.
Ashley Preston, Brebeuf Jesuit
The senior midfielder opened the week with a goal in Brebeuf’s 1-1 draw with Guerin Catholic. She had two assists and a goal in Brebeuf’s 4-2 over Heritage Christian on Sept. 2. She followed with a two-goal, two-assist performance in the Braves’ 7-0 win at Herron on Sept. 4. Preston’s four goals are the most on the team. She has guided the Braves to a 3-2-2 record.
