SOUTH BEND — An art exhibit now through Sept. 22 showcases more than 150 works by homeless guests living in the Motels4Now program. They are on display at Our Lady of the Road, 744 S. Main St., with most of the pieces selling for $50-$20 and with the money going directly to the artists.
It will culminate in a closing reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 22. It will feature a handful of new works that weren’t seen at the opening reception in June.
Donations of new and used art supplies will be accepted at the reception. The most-needed supplies include paint pens, acrylic paints, new or used canvases, canvas board, gel pens, and stencils, though a wide range of art supplies, tools and types of paint and adhesives are helpful.
The exhibit can also be viewed from 8 to 11 a.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 22.
The exhibit’s art was created in the Motels4Now Art Workshop, a visual arts studio embedded in the former motel lobby of Motels4Now. It offers twice-weekly open studios for artmaking and supplies residents with materials for making art independently in their rooms. It was started in March 2024 by artist and staff member M.T. Giddings with financial support from the Indiana Arts Commission and the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.
For more information, accessibility or to donate to the Art Workshop, contact M.T. Giddings at matti@newdaysouthbend.org or leave a message at 574-222-0417.
