It’s official! Brevard County is getting a Trader Joe’s.
Melbourne was listed under the “Opening Soon” tab on the Trader Joe’s website Sept. 2. The address listed for the store is 2221 Town Center Ave., which is located in The Avenue Viera.
“We are thrilled to welcome Trader Joe’s to Avenue Viera,” said Jeff Law, general manager of Avenue Viera. “Bringing this highly requested and much-loved grocer to the community has long been a priority, and we are excited for residents and visitors alike to experience all that Trader Joe’s has to offer when they open their doors.”
Excitement started to build in March when it was discovered an application for a building permit was submitted to the county on behalf of Trader Joe’s. It was for the spot in The Avenue Viera where Michael’s craft store was located.
In July, Michael’s closed, signs posted on windows of the storefront read “Get ready to meet a new favorite,” and the Trader Joe’s application was approved. It paved the way for construction to begin.
When will Trader Joe’s open in Brevard County?
Officials have said the store should open six months after it appears on “coming soon” section on Trader’s Joe’s web site. That would mean the store should be open around March.
What’s so special about Trader Joe’s?
Known for its private-label products, reasonable prices and excellent customer service, Trader Joe’s has gained a cult-like following.
There are countless social media accounts dedicated to documenting the latest and greatest offerings. Favorite items include mandarin orange chicken, everything bagel seasoning and Scandinavian Swimmers (think Swedish Fish).
Rumors about Trader Joe’s coming have come up before
Hopes were raised in 2019. That’s when an Eau Gallie Arts District grassroots social-media campaign unsuccessfully attempted to lure Trader Joe’s to open a store inside a shuttered Walgreens. A sign with the Trader Joe’s logo was hung on the building, which got the public excited.
Back in December 2024 there was a lot of online buzz about Trader Joe’s coming to the Space Coast, but the grocery store’s officials shut down those rumors.
The plan was for it to move into an abandoned building on State Road 520 that once housed a Barnes & Noble. Trader Joe’s officials never confirmed the Merritt Island location, and it never came to be.
