August was a record-breaking month for parts of Greater Akron.

The National Weather Service says just 0.19 inches of rain fell at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport in August − setting a new record for the driest August ever.

And it was the driest month ever at the airport.

The typical rainfall for August at the airport is 3.6 inches.

The end of August marked the end of so-called meteorological summer.

And it was a dry one in Greater Akron.

The weather service says 7.7 inches of rain fell at the airport between June 1 and Aug. 31 − some 4.4 inches below average.

It was a dry summer but with average highs of about 81 degrees and lows of 62 degrees it was pretty unremarkable weather wise.

When will it rain again in Greater Akron?

The run of dry weather and sunny skies will continue for a couple more days.

The National Weather Service said rain and even some rumbles of thunder are in the forecast.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday night with rain likely on Thursday as a strong cold front pushes across the region.

As much as three quarters of an inch of rain is possible in Greater Akron on Thursday.

It is expected to dry out by Friday with sunny skies and fall-like temperatures in the upper 60s expected for the weekend.

By Thursday, overnight lows in the 40s are possible.

The U.S. Drought Monitor says roughly half of Ohio is in need of rain.

Southern Summit County and the southwest corner of Portage County is considered “abnormally dry” as a result of the parched summer.
