Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Jared Verse will enter his second NFL season as an award-winning player after one season. He took home NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl after tallying 4.5 sacks and 89 pressures in 2025.
There are a lot of expectations for Verse in 2025, both in terms of sack production as well as helping the Rams reach another Super Bowl. But at least person outside of the Rams’ building is high on Verse this season.
According to a report compiled from The Athletic’s Jeff Howe after talking with teams throughout the summer, a rival executive predicted Verse will be “the league’s best defensive player this season.” The 2024 first-round pick and Defensive Rookie of the Year was more disruptive than his 4.5 sacks would suggest, and the young and improving Rams defense might have another star on its hands.”
Does that prediction include a Defensive Player of the Year Award? Hard to say. He has the eighth-best odds to win the award at +1500, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Perhaps the executive just means he’ll lead the NFL in sacks, which would also indicate a DPOY award is on the table.
Either way, Verse has already cemented himself as one of the top young defenders in the NFL as well as a top overall defender in the league.
