Penei Sewell just outside of top ten in Top 100 Players of 2025

One more Lions player has been revealed as one of the best players in the entire league, as voted on by his peers.

The NFL continued their unveiling of the Top 100 Players of 2025 and coming in at No. 13 is offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

Sewell moves up nine spots from his No. 22 ranking in 2024 as he once again showed he is one of the best offensive tackle across the NFL and a key reason the Lions won 15 games in 2024.

Here’s what NFL.com’s Coral Smith wrote about Sewell:

Sewell has been as advertised in his first four years as a pro, steadily getting better and rising to the occasion despite a position switch to become a perennial Pro Bowl talent. In 2024, Sewell barely missed a snap and allowed just one sack in 1,144 snaps, recording a 87.5 overall grade and 90.5 run blocking grade, per PFF. For his part in protecting Jared Goff through the Lions’ impressive season, he even earned votes in Offensive Player of the Year standings and now stands as the odds-on favorite for the inaugural Protector of the Year award. His presence will be ever more important in the Lions’ quest for a Super Bowl after the departure of two other OL starters this offseason.

NFL Pro Insight for Sewell: Penei Sewell allowed pressure on 8.1% of his pass blocking snaps in 2024, 16th-lowest among right tackles (min. 200 pass blocking snaps)

Sewell allowed just one sack in 1,144 snaps last season, en route to his third Pro Bowl selection and his first career First-Team All-Pro selection.

Sewell has worked himself into the conversation with the likes of Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles and Tristan Wirfs of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the best tackle in football, let alone the best right tackle in football. Johnson doesn’t have many years left in this league so it may not be long before Sewell climbs to the top of that list and eventually into the top ten overall amongst his peers.
