Labor Day occurs on the first Monday of September every year. This year, it falls on Monday, September 1, 2025.
The federal holiday celebrates “the social and economic achievements of American workers,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Who gets the day off work on Labor Day?
Labor Day is listed as one of 11 federal U.S. holidays, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
Most federal workers and private sector workers receive paid time off.
Is the stock market closed on Labor Day? When is it usually open?
The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and bond markets will be closed on Labor Day. Those markets are typically open Monday through Friday, except on select holidays.
Will banks be open or closed on Labor Day?
According to U.S. News and World Report, banks and their branches will be closed on Labor Day.
Bank ATMs and digital banking features will still be available.
Will you get mail on Labor Day? Does USPS deliver on Labor Day?
Mail is not delivered on federal holidays, so you will not receive your regular mail or packages on Labor Day.
USPS Priority Mail is the only service in operation.
Will FedEx and UPS have deliveries and pickups on Labor Day?
Other delivery services, such as FedEx and UPS, will not operate on Labor Day. However, critical deliveries will still be in service for both companies.
