Michigan State football fans probably already didn’t want to see their week one showdown with Western Michigan come down to a field goal, but that is probably even more true now. This summer, the Spartans had a kicking competition on their hands between Martin Connington and Tarik Ahmetbasic.
Unfortunately, both of those players are currently dealing with injuries, and the Spartans might need to turn to a former Division II kicker with limited experience in their opening night game against the Broncos. On Monday, Jonathan Smith provided an update on the situation, and said that the Spartans may have to turn to redshirt senior walk-on Blake Sislo if Tarik Ahmetbasic, who is a game-time decision, can’t play.
Sislo is a transfer from Davenport University, but he did not see game action during his time with the Panthers. However, Sislo was an accurate high school kicker at Dexter, where he set the single-game record with 10 PATs made in a single game. He also hit 37 consecutive PATs at one point in his high school career.
