Amane Breedlove is heading west.
The Manual junior announced Wednesday via social media he has transferred to Arizona College Prep High School in Chandler, Arizona. Breedlove this month was named to the Journal Star’s Dandy Dozen — a list of the top 12 high school football players in the Peoria area.
“My dad got a job down there,” he told the Journal Star, noting he enrolled at ACP in early August, “and we’ve been just wanting to move for a little while now. A better football program and better for my recruitment.”
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound two-way player was supposed to be a key component at Manual for coach Dennis Bailey. During his sophomore season with the Rams, Breedlove recorded 27 tackles, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery last season. This helped him earn all-Big 12 Conference second-team honors as a defensive back.
Offensively, Breedlove was responsible four total touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving), while posting 162 rushing yards and 521 receiving yards.
“Just being a great player overall,” Breedlove said of what his new team can expect out him. “Big hitting. … Just being a great leader for the team. Filling in spots where kids were lacking at and just giving my all.”
Breedlove says he’ll miss Bailey the most now that he’s gone from central Illinois.
“Coach DB (brought) most of the college (recruiters) to me,” Breedlove said, “and just the energy he (brought) to the team. It was great.”
Last season, ACP went 12-2, advancing to the Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A state championship game and finishing as the state runner-up. The Knights open their 2025 campaign on Aug. 30.
