Work on the $161 million Akron Beltway project – the largest in the history of District Four of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) – has been completed, save for some bridge painting, Justin Chesnic, ODOT District 4’s public information officer, said.
ODOT hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony the morning of Aug. 13 at the Rubber City Heritage Trail Pedestrian Bridge, Chesnic said. Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and ODOT District 4 Deputy Director Gery Noirot were scheduled to speak at the event.
Construction on the Akron Beltway project began in June 2021 and work included the replacement and addition of multiple bridges, pavement replacement and the addition of lanes on Interstate 77 between U.S. Route 224 and state Route 8. Work also included the resurfacing of state Route 8 and the addition of a southbound lane on state Route 8 between Carroll and Beacon streets.
