Special teams can ultimately shift games. Southwest Florida has several prospects more than capable of a clutch field goal or a field-flipping punt.
So, who’s got the more valuable unit in the area? That’s for you to decide.

Here’s our list of the area’s best special teams units in alphabetical order:
Barron Collier
The Cougars looked to have a gap in this spot heading into the offseason, with soccer players Lliam Peterson and Javi Gomez doing the kicking and punting duties, respectively. But Barron got First Baptist transfer Lucas Montejo in the fold, who was 49 of 55 on PATs and 4 of 5 on field goals, with a long of 38 yards.
Bishop Verot
Verot’s special teams unit will be worth watching this year, with kicker Colton Lamb back in the fold after going 51 of 53 on PATs and 3 of 5 on field goals. Lamb punted just twice a year ago, averaging 63.5 yards per boot. He’ll replace Carter Smith in that spot, who took a majority of the snaps on fourth down.
Community School
The Seahawks will be strong on special teams as they’ve been in previous years, with Ryder Brown and Hudson Switken handling the duties at punter and kicker, respectively.
Fort Myers
Replacing Vaughn Lennon is going to be a noticeable loss for the Green Wave, who averaged 47.2 yards per punt, amounting to 1,840 yards on 39 tries. Lennon also had 46 touchbacks and was 44 of 46 on PATs. Heir apparent is Brayden Russell, who’s emerged as his successor and was behind Lennon last year as a sophomore.
Naples
The Golden Eagles always have a solid special teams unit, and this year’s group will be no exception. After nailing 47 of 51 PATs last season and going 6 of 9 on field goals with a long of 37 yards, Dariece Collins will do the punting once again. He averaged 34.2 yards per punt on 33 attempts, amounting to 1,129 yards.
