Sawdust Coin Scramble, sack races and more during Kids Day at Cheboygan County Fair

CHEBOYGAN — The Cheboygan County Fair features many fun attractions, especially for kids.

But there’s one day each year that shines more than others when it comes to entertaining kids. That would be Kids Day, which took place over two hours at the Cheboygan Fairgrounds on Thursday, Aug. 7.

This year’s Kids Day included many of the same popular activities from the past, such as the Sawdust Coin Scramble, which saw kids of different age groups search for coins. Following the coin scramble were sack races, where prizes were also given out.

Overall, the two-plus hour event was another rousing success.

“It’s an amazing event,” said Cheryl Heiny, secretary of the Cheboygan County Fair board. “Kids can register for a free bike. It’s a drawing at the end of our (1-3 p.m.) hour free period. We’ve got a lot going on. Kids start lining up at noon and it doesn’t start until 1, so they’re excited.”

Providing pizza to kids was Duncan City Pizza, while the Cheboygan Kiwanis Club helped give out water, chips, juice and water to those in attendance. By 3 p.m., drawings were held for free bikes as well as gift baskets handed out by Dairy Queen. Twister Joe was also present to make balloon animals for kids.

Also helping out were members of the Cheboygan High School football team.

“The Cheboygan football team guys have been amazing,” Heiny said. “They were so helpful today, getting us all set up, getting tables set up, getting all the stuff from Save A Lot, getting it all put in coolers and on ice, and the Kiwanis helped us hand out the drinks and the chips, and everybody that’s a part of the fair board did a great job of helping out.”

The 2025 Cheboygan County Fair ran Aug. 2-9.
