Six months into his second term in office, most recent polls show lower approval ratings for President Donald Trump.
Among several nationwide polls conducted in mid- to late July, Americans gave Trump approval ratings in the 40% to 50% range. However, a Gallup poll gave the president a 37% approval rating, a record low for his second term.
“Trump closes out the second quarter of his second term in office having accomplished much of what he said he would do if elected,” Gallup analyst Megan Brenan wrote. “Yet, outside of his Republican base, relatively few Americans are pleased with his performance. His rating has fallen to the lowest point of his second term, essentially matching where he was at the same time in his first term, which is not much higher than his all-time worst rating.”
In a Trafalger/InsiderAdvantage survey, Trump’s approval rating reached 50%.
“The confusion among voters over issues related to the Epstein files created a bit of a speed bump for the Trump Administration over the past few weeks,” pollsters Matt Towery (InsiderAdvantage) and Robert Cahaly (Trafalgar Group) wrote in an analysis. “But recent developments in that matter and the revelation of criminal referrals related to the Obama Administration and the initiation of the now discredited Trump/Russia probe appear to bear taking hold.”
Across policy issues, Trump got mixed results, with some polls demonstrating backing for his immigration agenda, while other surveys showed strong opposition to his immigration and economic policies, including declines from previous polling.
The Trump administration has pushed aggressive immigration enforcement, including workplace raids, and economic policy has been characterized by tariffs, trade wars and trade deals.
