The most popular beverage brands across the U.S. won’t come as a surprise to most people who like to pop open a fizzy drink from time to time: Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Sprite, and Dr. Pepper all top the list in a new report.
California stands with three other states in the country when it comes to the state’s “favorite” soft drink brand, according to an Allrecipes report posted on July 6. The report drew on a study by beverage consulting firm Power Brands, which analyzed Google Trends data by tracking searches of popular soft drink brands in all 50 states.

Fanta is the trendiest soft drink brand in California, according to the Power Brands study. Hawaii and Oregon shared love for Fanta, the company’s analysis of Google search data.
“Is its West Coast popularity linked to the prolific supply of oranges in California? We may never know,” the study writers asked.
According to food website Gastro Obscura, Fanta was developed by Coca-Cola’s German division during World War II after its American-based parent couldn’t send Coca-Cola syrup. In response, the German factory used leftovers of other food industries: fruit shavings, apple fibers and pulp, beet sugar, and whey, to come up with Fanta, shorthand for the German word for “fantasy.” In April 1955, Coca-Cola reintroduced Fanta with a new recipe, this time as an orange-flavored drink, according to Gastro Obscura.
Elsewhere on the West Coast, Washington state soft drink lovers gulped down AriZona Ice Tea as their favorite soft drink, Allrecipes reported.
