Crash on Interstate 41 in Grand Chute slows traffic moving through the Fox Cities

Interstate 41 northbound, between the exits for Wisconsin Avenue and Northland Avenue in Grand Chute, was reduced to one lane for just over an hour on July 21 as the result of a crash.

The lane closed at about 2:17 p.m., and was reopened just before 3:30 p.m., according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

This lane restriction is separate from another lane restriction 11 miles northeast in Kaukauna, where traffic is reduced to one lane from 9:30 a.m. July 21 to 5 a.m. July 22 to allow for emergency pavement repairs.

The interstate, in both directions, is currently under construction as part of a multi-year project to expand the interstate to three lanes between Grand Chute and De Pere. The project will also remodel several interchanges in the Fox Cities. As such, its span has several segments with closed shoulders, and several overpasses over the interstate are being rebuilt.

The I-41 project is expected to finish in 2030. For information on the project, visit i41project.wisconsindot.gov, and for updated traffic conditions, visit 511wi.gov.
