Texas A&M has been on a heater for the 2026 recruiting class and could finish in the top three when all is said and done. Every program is jumping on future classes early, and the Aggies looked to have a strong start after receiving a verbal commitment from four-star tight end George Lamons Jr.
After earning an offer in February 2025, the Georgia native committed to Texas A&M just two months later in April—making him the first pledge of the 2027 class. However, on Monday morning Hayes Fawcett reported that Lamons has decommitted from A&M.
A top-30 ranked recruit, Lamons Jr. is currently positioned as the No. 29 prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 6 athlete nationally, and the No. 5 player in Georgia. He broke onto the recruiting scene after a breakout sophomore season, racking up 1,340 yards and 20 touchdowns while showcasing his versatility at both tight end and wide receiver.
Losing a commitment is never ideal but given that Lamons had only been committed for a few months in a class that won’t arrive on campus for another two seasons, it’s not a huge setback. It also gives A&M an opportunity to reestablish the relationship later in the cycle, with a chance to see him recommit down the line.
