The month of July is almost over, and this is the time when flipping a recruit could make or break a program’s recruiting class. But despite being actively recruited by numerous other programs, four-star prospect and two-sport phenom Jasen Lopez remains locked in with the Florida State Seminoles.
Lopez, who plays both basketball as a point guard and as a wide receiver in football, recently told On3’s Marcus Benjamin that he was “[staying] in contact with other coaches.” This included the Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, N.C. State Wolfpack, and West Virginia Mountaineers. Given Lopez, who is from Miami, had spoken to the Hurricanes staff at least somewhat, perhaps it was obvious that a flip could’ve been predicted.
Understandably, a decommitment had Florida State fans scared, but he later clarified with Rivals’ analyst Jamie Shaw that this was not the case.
The 5’10” point guard told Shaw, “They just send me texts here and there.”
It would seem that these fears were overblown. Lopez, at this time, remains fully committed to the Seminoles. Lopez added, “[Coach Loucks] stayed in contact with me. He did a great job recruiting me because a lotof times, assistant coaches are the ones staying in contact. He did a great job staying in contact with me.”
The four-star is ranked as the 40th best wide receiver and the 11th best point guard in the nation. Lopez has not yet announced whether or not he will enroll at Florida State early.
