Police across Ingham County handing out tickets…to the Ingham County Fair

MASON — For apparently the first time ever, a traffic stop could get you a ticket to the 2025 Ingham County Fair.

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office and at least four other local police departments have agreed to hand out hundreds of free tickets to the fair in any way they choose, which will probably include traffic stops, fair officials said.

Lindsey McKeever, the fairgrounds events director, said she expects the promotion will work something like Thanskgiving turkey giveaways, in which officers pull over drivers and hand them a turkey instead of a ticket.

“It’s just a great partnership between agencies, and we were excited we were able to come up with the idea, get people out to the fair and provide the opportunity for community policing on top of that,.” McKeever said in an interview.

The police departments in East Lansing, Leslie, Mason and Williamston also have agreed to participate, she said, Those departments will have 100 free fair tickets to distribute, while the sheriff’s department will have 200, she added.

The fair runs from July 28 to Aug. 2 at the fairgrounds in Mason. Entry is $10 for people 13 and older, with discounts for younger children and people 62 and over, according to the fair’s website.

Onsite wristband tickets for rides range from $28 to $35, depending on the day, according to the website. One-day ride wristbands and “Megapass” wristbands good for the whole week are available online until the day the fair opens.
