Showcasing all things weird, the Oddities & Curiosities Expo is making a stop in Detroit on July 12 and July 13.
The event spotlights vendors selling “taxidermy, preserved specimens, original artwork, horror/halloween inspired pieces, antiques, handcrafted oddities, creepy clothing, odd jewelry, animal skulls/bones, funeral collectibles & much more,” according to the travelling expo’s website.
Beyond displays of oddities, the expo features classes. On Saturday, it’s taxidermy day — a six-hour class designed for beginners and hosted by the Sleeping Sirens, a Florida-based oddities shop. Each student will be provided with a rabbit hide or a skinned, cleaned and tanned raccoon.
On Sunday, the expo will feature two classes on entomology, with one focusing on beetles and the other on spiders. Participants will learn safe collection and proper handling of insects and how to pin and mount them for display.
According to event organizers, “all oddities are ethically and sustainably sourced.”
