VENICE – The milling and paving portion of the Tarpon Center Drive Nature-Based Flood Mitigation Pilot Project is scheduled to start Friday, July 11.
The project replaced approximately 400 linear feet of the existing seawall along Tarpon Center Drive damaged by Hurricane Idalia in 2023.
The replacement seawall has been topped with a glass flood barrier that will provide additional protection from storm surge and high tide flooding of this important evacuation route, while maintaining a clear view of the waterfront.
The work starts at 7 a.m. July 11, at the north end of the seawall project.
The first 100 feet of both sides of Tarpon Center Drive to the intersection of The Esplanade, will be milled.
The paving portion is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. Monday, July 14 and is estimated to take two days.
During this work, motorists should be aware there will be single lanes of traffic on The Esplanade.
Contractor Tampa Bay Marine Inc. will have traffic control onsite along with flaggers to direct vehicles.
