Southern Michigan bank employees use Juneteenth for Community Service Day

COLDWATER, MI — With the Federal Reserve closed in observance of the Juneteenth holiday, June 19, employees of Southern Michigan Bank & Trust used the day to serve their local communities.

On that Thursday, 220 SMBT employees volunteered their time for the bank’s Community Service Day to support 35 different organizations across the region, including Branch County Humane Society, Coach Eby Youth and Family Center, BCCADSV Hope Café Fair Booth Cleanup, Good Better Best, Maple Lawn, and the City of Coldwater‘s Oak Grove Cemetery.

Southern’s Community Service Day assisted municipalities, schools, senior centers, county fairgrounds, and other community-focused groups.

The volunteers spent the day cleaning headstones, painting signs, pulling weeds, moving furniture, and spreading mulch, among other tasks.

SMB&T CEO and President John Waldron said, “Community Service Day is one of our most meaningful traditions at SMBT…While we support many of these organizations as their financial partner, having the opportunity to contribute in a hands-on way is incredibly rewarding.”

Southern Michigan Bancorp, Inc., the parent company of Southern Michigan Bank & Trust, operates 18 offices in Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, and St. Joseph counties, offering a broad range of consumer, business, and wealth management services throughout the region.

“SMBT’s mission is to be a trusted partner, working for the betterment of our communities,” Waldron said.
