The Portage County Veterans Service Commission has relocated its office, and plans a grand opening June 28 to celebrate.
“Veterans and their families are welcome to enjoy music, food, raffles, guest speakers and a bounty of information,” the commission states on its website. “Stop in and see how we can help.”
The open house will run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature food, entertainment and information, much of it provided by local veterans.
Portage County Veterans Services, which relocated from offices that were elsewhere in the administration building, plans to host several vendors at the grand opening, many of them run by veterans. The new office is in the annex of the administration building, with an entrance off South Chestnut Street.
Vendors will include Black Boar Armory & Coatings, The Slop Truck, Portage County Dog Warden’s Office and Shelter, Portage County Veterans Service Office, War Horse Ink, Kent State University, The University of Akron, Portage County Recorder Lori Calcei, Portage County Auditor Matt Kelly, Wolf Rock Radio, Supportive Services for Veteran Families and United Way of Portage County.
The Veterans Services Commission recently received a Raven Award for its renovation project.
