Cedar Point's record-breaking Siren’s Curse thrill ride opens June 28

Siren’s Curse, the newest thrill ride at Cedar Point, is set to open Saturday, June 28.

The Ohio amusement park has been calling out to thrill ride lovers for months, teasing that it was building, and then testing, North America’s “tallest, fastest and longest tilt roller coaster.”

But it wasn’t until Thursday, June 26 that it said what day you could actually ride it.

Season passholders, the park said, will get special, early access. All Gold, Summer and Prestige passholders, along with passholders who have the All Park Passport add-on, can access the ride from 2-10 p.m. on Friday, June 27.

For the brave, but short, there’s a minimum height requirement:  four feet tall.

The lakeside park, in its usual mix of promotion and dramatic storytelling, described the ride as an experience in which the sirens who lured sailors with their sweet, seductive songs lure guests in the same way.

“Riders will hear the echo of the siren’s chilling melodies as they ascend an old 160-foot-tall Lake Erie shipping crane tower,” the park said. “Their fate will hang in the balance as they encounter the roller coaster’s signature moment: a dead stop on a ‘broken off’ section of track.”

The platform holding the train will gradually tilt — thus the name, tilt coaster — as the coaster cars descend, riders “peer straight down with the hope their train will connect to the twisted track below.”

As for coaster stats: The track is 2,966 feet long. The top speed is 58 mph. There are two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls, a twisted and overbanked track and a few moments during the ride of what will seem like weightless airtime.

The ride is two minutes, but the wait time to get on will likely be much longer.
