Watch: Ex Cleveland Gold Glover Andres Gimenez makes highlight play against former team

Cleveland Guardians fans are used to seeing Platinum Glove second baseman Andres Gimenez make web gems out in the field. This time, though, he did it against his former team.

In the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, June 24, Gimenez laid out for a diving play up the middle of the diamond to rob outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez of a hit, leaving the Toronto broadcast crew in awe.

Gimenez, a three-time Gold Glove award winner and former All-Star, played four seasons for the Guardians organization before getting traded to Toronto in a three-team deal.

The trade, which also included the Pittsburgh Pirates, sent outfielder Nick Mitchell, left-handed pitcher Josh Hartle, right-handed pitcher Luis Ortiz and left-handed pitcher Michael Kennedy back to Cleveland.

Though Gimenez’s bat leaves a lot to be desired for Blue Jays fans since the trade — the 26-year-old entered the series against his former team with a .192/.280/.294 slash line for a career-worst 61 OPS+ — it’s pretty clear that his glove remains among the best of the best in Major League Baseball.
