Beloved Buddy’s Pizza is enhancing its menu this summer with added items beyond its well-known square pizzas.
The longtime Detroit pizza chain known as the originator of Detroit-style pizza is adding smash burgers, in-house-made onion rings and cauliflower wings to its menu.
While Buddy’s menu has options other than pizza, the chain says it is upping its burger offerings and adding other items that include a local twist.
Joe Dominiak, Buddy’s CEO, told the Free Press its new smash burgers will be a permanent item on its menus.
“One of the areas where we thought we could make the quickest inroads (on menus) and have a great impact that would help our menu — and allow us to have a bar menu — was to look at the burgers and bring in what we are calling our smash stacks,” Dominiak said.
The smash burgers are in addition to Buddy’s current burger line.
“We have two good burgers right now. They sell well and we just wanted to give us options going forward,” he said.
But the new smash burger line, Dominiak said, will allow them to bring more limited-time-offer flavors and variety throughout the year.
Buddy’s has also created a limited-time smash burger pizza.
