Manitowoc police arrest man suspected of threatening to ‘shoot up’ Park-and-Ride

MANITOWOC – A 20-year-old man was arrested June 19 after police say he threatened to “shoot up” the Park-and-Ride near Perkins in Manitowoc.

According to a probable cause statement, Manitowoc Police Department was told the man was sending threatening messages through text and Snapchat.

A witness said they were parked at the Park-and-Ride when the man called them and said, “You should probably leave before I shoot up the place.”

When they moved to the far side of the parking lot, they said the man followed them and showed them a gun he kept in the driver’s side door.

They also reported he sent them photos of a gun he claimed was stolen and made threats to burn down a house or crash his car into a house and targeted multiple people in his threats.

After police were unable to reach the man by phone, they started searching the city for him. They eventually found him and another man driving near South 10th and Flambeau streets in Manitowoc. They were both arrested without incident during a traffic stop.

Police also searched the vehicle during the traffic stop and found two BB guns, a bottle of Prednisone pills, a partial bottle of Seagrams and cans of hard iced tea.

According to the probable cause statement, the man told police he has been angry since a breakup and he heard rumors about other people wanting to fight him. He said he makes threatening statements in hopes they would stop talking about him.

He also said he did not have access to a real gun, just BB guns, and denied the statement that he was going to shoot up the Park-and-Ride.

Manitowoc police have recommended charges of terrorist threats. The Herald Times Reporter does not report the names of those arrested until charges have been filed with the Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
