Learn about some interesting outdoor places you can visit in Greene and Martin counties at the June Bedford Parks Program, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the Otis Park Bath House at 1621 Tunnelton Road in Bedford.
The presentation by Janet Eger and Teena Ligman, who have been doing a series on interesting places to visit in neighboring counties, invite people of all ages learn about the many places they can visit.
Eger and Ligman have been visiting sites in Greene and Martin counties and and ready to recommend their favorites. They were familiar with some of the places. “However, we visited some,” Ligman said, “that we weren’t sure what we were going to find. We followed up on obscure notes on the internet and went exploring; and what delightful places we found.”
Ligman describes one place that was off the beaten path, and they were a little unsure if they should even park in the driveway. “But this older man greets us and spent almost an hour showing us around; it was a magical place. His whole property was an amazing adventure with inspiring sculptures and crafts made out of recycled materials. Local schools bring their classes out by the busloads around Earth Day to learn about the potential of reusing trash to make art.”
Eger agrees that the June program will include the best of hiking trails in the area, a place to ride off-road vehicles, beautiful nature preserves and wildlife areas. She said some of their favorite places were the local diners and historic general stores they stopped to check out.
“If anyone doesn’t think our local counties don’t have plenty of incredible places to see, you need to come learn about some of the places we visited,” she said. Eger said she believes people in south-central Indiana live in the middle of some counties that offer some interesting, fun, and mostly free, places to visit — so get outside and check out what southern Indiana has to offer!
Mark your calendar for the July 22 program as well. You won’t want to miss this program, A Walking Tour of the Hillcrest Circle Historic District in Bedford. There is a surprising amount of history associated with this quiet neighborhood at the end of Washington Avenue. Marla Jones and Teena Ligman will lead the July program.
