Meteorologist Brad Edwards coming back to TV — at a new station

Long-time meteorologist Brad Edwards is making his return to local news after a brief break.

Edwards, who had a 28-year-long career with WOI Local 5, will now serve as a contributing meteorologist for WHO 13. Since his departure with Local 5 in January, Edwards has enjoyed his break but is ready to return to work.

“I loved the break,” Edwards told the Register on June 13. “I feel like I have been working since I was 16 years old, so it’s nice to get a break during the summer.”

What will meteorologist Brad Edwards do for WHO 13?

Edwards’ new gig at WHO 13 starts July 1. He is going to help the station out on an as-needed basis. Edwards also gets to decide when he works, so he can still enjoy time being semi-retired.

“It’s a mutual agreement,” Edwards said. “I really don’t want to be full-time necessarily. So this is perfect.”

Edwards is joining some of his former Local 5 colleagues at WHO 13, including Amanda Krenz. who is a news contributor, and anchor Lisa Carponelli.

“WHO is trying to get the best people available on their team, even if it’s a contributing role,” Edwards said. “They are creating a big roster of former good employees, and I think it’s a good philosophy.”

Meteorologists Jason Parkins and Metinka Slater also serve in part-time contributor roles, joining the full-time staff led by chief meteorologist Ed Wilson. The station’s other full-time meteorologists are Gabe Prough, Jeriann Ritter and Megan Salois.

Edwards’ former station, WOI, recently hired Chase Bullman as its second meteorologist.

When will Brad Edwards be on air at WHO 13?

Viewers could see Edwards at any time. He expects to be working mostly on weekends. Depending on the demand, Edwards could work as many as 40 hours a week or once a month. Edwards will be an employee of WHO 13 for as long as the agreement stands.

“I am very excited to join Channel 13 and excited to get back on the air,” Edwards said.
