Michigan State basketball left off latest ESPN early preseason rankings for 2025-26 season

Michigan State basketball isn’t a top 25 team entering next season in the eyes of ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

Borzello posted a new batch of early top 25 rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season, and the Spartans were not included. Borzello left Michigan State outside of their top 25 as one of the teams listed in the “Next in line” category.

Michigan State has typically been included in the many different early preseason rankings for next year, making Borzello an outlier. The Spartans have been often listed in the late teens or early 20’s of these type of rankings, with only a few I’ve found that have Michigan State completely outside the top 25.

From the Big Ten, Borzello has the following teams ranked: Purdue at No. 1, Michigan at No. 8, UCLA at No. 15, Illinois at No. 16 and Wisconsin at No. 20. Ohio State and USC joined the Spartans in the “Next in line” spot of just outside the top 25.
