Norwood High School announced on May 16 the hiring of Brian Callahan as its new boys basketball head coach and program manager.
Callahan takes over the program from Ty Gibert who was hired by Norwood last July. The Indians went 4-19 last season, including an 0-12 mark in Miami Valley Conference contests.
Callahan has been a basketball coach for nearly three decades working on the AAU scene as well as stops at local programs, including time at Norwood as the junior varsity coach. Other assistant or junior varsity coaching stops came at Anderson, Goshen, Amelia and Walnut Hills.
Colerain hires Evan Heitman as boys hoops coach
Callahan wasn’t the only boys basketball coach to get a new position on Friday. Colerain High School also announced a new boys basketball hire in Evan Heitman.
Heitman began his coaching career a decade ago as an assistant at Colerain before stops at North College Hill, La Salle and Finneytown with some AAU coaching with the Shining Star program.

“We are excited to introduce Evan Heitman as our new coach,” Colerain athletic director Matt Stoinoff said. “A Colerain native with experience in several successful programs, he understands the unique challenges involved. We believe Coach Heitman will develop a K-12 program that enables our kids to stay in the district where they belong. Also, we are looking forward to the staff Evan is assembling and the expertise they will contribute.”
Aiken High School taps new basketball, soccer and cheer coaches
Aiken athletic department announced hiring three new head coaches ‒ Recua Gunn (cheer), Simeon Wallis (girls soccer) and Sean Davis (boys basketball).
Davis has been the assistant varsity coach since June 2022.
