West Lafayette officials launch paid parking app near Purdue beginning in early June

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — City officials are launching a new metered parking system around Purdue’s campus in partnership with ParkMobile, a parking app provider, in two phases, the first starting in early June.

Phase 1will include 476 on-street parking spaces in the Discovery Park District (Airport Road and Mitch Daniels Boulevard) and Wabash Landing, near Tapawingo Park and the Levee. These are high-demand areas where metered parking will help improve turnover and provide easier access for visitors, residents and nearby businesses, city officials said in a news release.

Phase 2, expected later this summer, will add an additional 467 metered spaces in areas closer to Purdue, where parking demand is highest.

The initiative aims to enhance the overall parking experience while supporting broader community goals. These include increased parking turnover, improved access to local businesses and more efficient use of curb space — all of which contribute to a more vibrant and accessible city environment, according to a news release.

In addition, all parking revenue generated through the program will be reinvested directly into local infrastructure projects, including street repairs, sidewalk enhancements, and ongoing improvements to the parking system, officials said. This reinvestment strategy ensures that the program delivers long-term value to residents, businesses and visitors.

Discussions began publicly last fall into ways to relieve persistent shortages of parking near campus.
