Do you have Michigan Gas Utilities' next 'ambassadog'? Last year's dog was from Petersburg

Will Monroe County again be home to Michigan Gas Utilities’ safe-digging “ambassadog”?

Through April 7, the utility seeks nominations of Michigan dogs for its social media campaign that reminds people to call 811 at least three days before they dig.

Last year, Raven Ruckus, then a 1-year-old wheaten terrier from Petersburg, was named Michigan Gas Utilities’ 2024 “ambassadog.”

“During her term, Raven Ruckus’ important message reached thousands of people across southern and western Michigan,” MGU said in a news release.

How to enter this year’s contest

MGU will narrow the list of nominees down and will then allow customers to vote for their favorite dog.

Raven, according to The Monroe News, was surrendered to an animal shelter in Mississippi and then transferred to another shelter in Tennessee.

She came to Michigan on the “Love Train” — an effort by Ann Arbor’s Humane Society of Huron Valley to bring in animals from struggling rescues and shelters.

Raven Ruckus’ dog mom surprised her husband and children by adopting Raven in April 2023. Today, Raven’s a trained therapy dog. She enjoys hiking and taking part in 4-H dog competitions with her human family.
