In February 2024, the Port Huron Police Department came from behind to beat the Port Huron Fire Department by a pair of goals, 5-3. Friday night at McMorran Place Arena, the Fire Department beat the Police by a pair of goals but in a shut-out win, 2-0.

Riley Westrick the daughter of Mike Westrick performed the National Anthem before a respectable crowd followed by Mayor Anita Ashford dropping the Ceremonial Puck to start the match. The fifth Battle of the Badges supports the ARC of St Clair as a major fund-raising event with good hockey and a good rivalry.

Fire went up 1-0 late in the first period and that score held until late in the third when they doubled up with an empty net goal. Police skated well and had bursts of offensive prowess but could not crack the netminder wearing red. The game had a few scrums that looked a little less than friendly but, in the end, both teams are playing for the same people, as First Responders do. The residents of Port Huron.

Look for the Prowlers of the Federal Prospects Hockey League to return Saturday night for a chance to close out the Battle of I-94 against the Motor City Rockers of Fraser, Michigan. The Prowlers’ 6-2-win Friday night in Fraser secured 3rd place in their division and locked up a playoff birth.
