Man recently released from Florida prison charged in Grand Chute motel shooting

A 47-year-old man is accused of attempted homicide for a shooting at a Grand Chute motel Aug. 8.

Ondra Toombs is charged with one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon, as domestic abuse. He faces additional charges felony charges of possession of a firearm while convicted of an out-of-state felony, and battery or threat to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer, as well as two misdemeanor charges: resisting or obstructing an officer, and domestic abuse disorderly conduct.

Toombs made his initial appearance Aug. 13. He is being held in Outagamie County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.

How much prison time could he face, if convicted?

The attempted first-degree intentional homicide against Toombs is a Class A felony. As a result, if he is convicted he faces an automatic life sentence, with a judge’s discretion if he will ever be eligible to be released on extended supervision.

On the possession of a firearm while convicted of an out-of-state felony charge, Toombs may face up to five years in prison and five years of extended supervision. For the battery to a law enforcement officer charge, he could face three years in prison and three years of extended supervision.

For the misdemeanor charges, he could face additional jail time: up to nine months in jail if convicted of resisting or obstructing an officer, and up to 90 days in jail if convicted of the disorderly conduct charge.
