Thirsty for football? There are still several weeks before the season kicks off, but you can get ready now.
Here’s what to know about the upcoming 2025 NFL season.
When does the NFL season start?
The NFL’s 272-game 2025 regular-season schedule kicks off with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Kickoff Game at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, Sept. 4.
Quarterback Dak Prescott returns from injury, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will debut as a receiving duo, and Brian Schottenheimer debuts as an NFL head coach.
The 2025 season slate features a record seven International Series games, including three in London, and one game apiece in Berlin, Dublin, Madrid and São Paulo. The NFL is playing games in Dublin and Madrid for the first time this season.
In addition to its traditional three Thanksgiving Day games, the NFL will have three games on Christmas Day for the first time.
When is the first NFL preseason game?
The Hall of Fame Game opens preseason play with the Detroit Lions vs. the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, July 31, at 7 p.m. CT in Canton, Ohio. Preseason Week 1 begins the following week on Aug. 7.
