TxDOT set to unveil its new Electra facility

The Texas Department of Transportation and the Electra Chamber of Commerce will hold an open house at 3 p.m. Wednesday for TxDOT’s new maintenance location.

TxDOT said in a news release that the main office building and equipment shop is 14,000 square feet. Other facilities on the property will add another 16,000 square feet to the compound.

The release said the new location will replace the old TxDOT office on South Bailey Street in Electra, which was built in 1957.

It’s located on the frontage road of southbound U.S. 287.

“This will provide better access to U.S. 287, State Hwy. 25, and other major state roads in the area,” the release said. “The large grounds contain multiple out buildings, a brine maker, 25-thousand gallons of storage for brine with another tank being installed later this winter.”

The release said the facility was built with pre-insulated concrete walls and a metal roof and was designed to “stand up to the harsh weather conditions in Texas.”
