As the season comes to an end, the end of the season awards are starting to narrow. One of the Longhorns leaders, Anthony Hill Jr. has been honored as a finalist for the Butkus Award. The Butkus Award goes to the best LB in the country every year. Hill Jr. will have to contend with Georgia LB CJ Allen, Ohio State’s Arvell Reese and Texas Tech’s Jacob Rodriquez this year.
Hill has put together an incredibly productive career at Texas, and this year has been no different. The junior LB has 70 total tackles, 4 sacks, 3 FFs and 2 INTs on the season heading into the final game of the regular season. Given he didn’t play this past weekend, those numbers are remarkable in just 10 games.
Hill becomes the first finalist the Longhorns have had since 2009, when Segio Kindle was a part of the finalists. If he takes home the award, it will be Texas’ second Butkus Award in history, with the first coming from Derrick Johnson in 2004.
Hill is also a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given the defensive player of the year in college football. Hill’s career in Austin has been as productive as an LB in Longhorn history and hopefully he can cap it with some hardware.
