Texas Football flips Stanford commit OT Kaden Scherer

The Texas Longhorns stayed hot on the recruiting trail Monday with a major win. The Longhorns secured a commitment from offensive tackle Kaden Scherer, who had been committed to Stanford. He will join a talented 2026 class that is shaping up to be one of the best in the nation, with more spots to fill.

In Scherer, the Longhorns are getting a three-star prospect who has been heavily recruited over the last few weeks. He is currently ranked as the 182nd best player from Texas in his class, by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 91st interior offensive lineman. While he still has room to improve, the Longhorns beat some of the top programs in the nation.

During the recruiting process, the Georgetown High star also drew interest from Texas Tech, Kansas State, Houston, and Virginia. However, the Longhorns were able to make Scherer an offer he could not refuse. Over the last few weeks, Steve Sarkisian and his staff were also able to flip TE Charlie Jilek and RB Jett Walker who had been committed to the Golden Gophers.

When Scherer arrives on campus, he will be part of a class that has the potential to win a national championship. That group includes two five-star prospects in QB Dia Bell and Jermaine Bishop. They will get some help from an assortment of four-star recruits that includes LB Tyler Atkinson, LB Kosi Okpala, EDGE Richard Wesley, CB Samari Matthews, and RB Derek Cooper.

Although Scherer will have to battle for playing time, he could be a very good depth piece. That will be key for a Texas team that has issues on the offensive line. As long as Scherer stays healthy, he could carve out an important role in an offense that is full of dangerous pieces.
