Texas A&M transfer forward 'should be good' to play on Tuesday

Texas A&M (4-2) won back to back games for just the second time this season after defeating Mahattan 109-68 on Friday night, led by Spanish sharpshooter Rubén Dominguez’s record setting performance from beyond the arc, hitting a Texas A&M record 10 3-pointers, and looking like the best shooter in the country in just his sixth career game with the Aggies.

However, while Dominguez was the focal point, this was a team effort, as the Aggies also set a program record with 18 made 3-pointers while shooting 58% from the field and 49% from deep. This was also the first game of the season for prized transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who only played four minutes and was 0-2 from the field.

After missing the first five games due to his foot injury and eventual surgery, head coach Bucky McMillan stated after the game that, while the former Indiana standout and future NBA draft selection was healthy enough to take the court, he rightfully pulled himself out of the game after feeling some pain, which was entirely expected.

“He pulled himself out of the game because it was hurting him a little bit. He was so amped up to play. Our trainer thinks he’s good. He should be good.”

Texas A&M will host a 1-6 Mississippi Valley State team that recently lost to Manhattan, and will more than likely struggle to slow down the Aggie offense, especially if Mgbako is back in complete form and establishes a rhythm. If he lives up to his immense potential, the Aggies are back to being a sleeper team in the SEC.
