20-plus prospects in the 2027 recruiting class saw Texas A&M’s 34-17 win over the Florida Gators on Saturday night, including five-star cornerback and priority recruit John Meredith, who, according to Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong, is now predicted to land with the Aggies, which would make him the second five-star CB commit in the last two recruiting cycles, joining 2026 five-star corner Brandon Arrington.
Texas A&M’s defense, which shut down the Gators after the first quarter, including allowing just one third-down conversion on ten attempts, certainly impressed every defensive prospect in attendance. At the same time, Meredith, who is talented enough to see the field during his freshman season, was able to see former five-star star cornerback Dezz Ricks, Will Lee III, and Tyreek Chappell in action.
While Ricks had his worst game of the year after several big catches, all three players cleaned things up in the second half, playing at an elite level. Meredith is the type of prospect coach Mike Elko can mold into a future superstar, based on his background as one of the top defensive minds and developers at both safety and cornerback.
On the field, Meredith’s 6’2″ frame and notable length and track speed allow him to play press man and zone at an equally efficient level, and he is one of the better deep coverage cornerback prospects in the country, which is why he is widely seen as the No. 1-ranked corner in the 2027 class.
According to Rivals, Meredith is currently positioned as the No. 4-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 1-ranked cornerback, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Texas.
