Storms surge Wichita Falls annual rainfall beyond yearly average

Thunderstorms rumbled across North Texas Sunday, spawning alerts from the National Weather Service and sometimes bringing blinding rain.

NWS said Wichita Falls officially received .77-inch of rain from storms that moved through in the late afternoon and night.

That surged total rainfall in 2025 to 34.28 inches, which is 8 inches above normal for the date and about 5 inches more than the average annual rainfall in the city.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that over 500 flights were canceled or were delayed at DFW International and Love Field airports as storms moved through the Metroplex. Fort Worth’s annual Parade of Lights was postponed because of the storms.

While sunshine was predicted for the Wichita Falls area by Monday afternoon, thunderstorms continued to move across East Texas during the morning hours.

Sunshine is forecast to prevail in Wichita Falls through Thanksgiving with chances of rain entering the forecast again Friday through Sunday.
