'Probably not': Texas A&M HC Mike Elko provides update for star RB

No. 3 Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0 SEC) has reached the final stage of the 2025 regular season, as Saturday’s 48-0 shutout win over Samford, and the Aggies will now travel to Austin (TX) to take on rival Texas (8-3, 5-2 SEC) for the second consecutive season after the Lone Star Showdown resumed in 2024.

This game is vital for both programs, but for the Aggies, a win on Black Friday means a trip to the SEC Championship for the first time in program history, while the Longhorns will still be on the outside looking in regarding the College Football Playoff.

Texas A&M is a lock for the CFP regardless of Friday’s result, but after falling to Texas 17-7 in Kyle Field last season, revenge, no matter if head coach Mike Elko or anyone on the roster says it, is on their mind. On Monday, Elko spoke to the media during his weekly pre-game press conference and provided injury updates on three key players.

First, star running back Le’Veon Moss, who has become the center of a weekly talking point after missing the last five games due to his ankle injury, has been on track to return during the regular season. Still, with just one game remaining, Elko revealed that the senior has a 50/50 shot at returning against the Longhorns.

“We’ll see. Probably not, but we’ll see.”

Transfer wide receiver Mario Craver and sophomore running back Rueben Owens, who both lead Texas A&M in receiving and rushing yards, were suited up against Samford, but didn’t play due to the competition, especially after the Aggies had built up a 28-0 lead going into halftime. On Monday, Elko stated, “Those guys are awesome,” and will be ready to go against the Longhorns.

We will learn of Moss’s status on Tuesday after the first official injury report is released.
