Texas A&M strands seven in 2–1 loss to Oregon to open Mary Nutter

No. 13 Texas A&M softball’s losing streak against ranked opponents continued Thursday afternoon, falling 2–1 to No. 14 Oregon in a defensive battle to open the Mary Nutter Classic.

The Aggies had more than enough chances to change the outcome but couldn’t cash in when it mattered most, stranding seven runners on base—including multiple innings with a runner on and fewer than two outs. Ford made a slight tweak to the lineup, but nothing that suggests a major overhaul is coming.

Sydney Lessentine delivered another steady outing in the circle, allowing just three hits across five innings and surrendering only a solo home run. But the story of the game was A&M’s inability to produce a timely swing, finishing just 1-for-13 with runners on base. Even in February, that level of execution simply isn’t good enough.

The lone spark came from Micaela Wark, who launched a solo home run for the Aggies’ only run of the day.

A&M will get another shot at its first ranked win of the season when it faces Duke on Thursday night. But if the offense repeats this performance, the Aggies risk starting their Mary Nutter slate in an 0–2 hole.
