Letter to the editor: Praise for Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and AG Paxton | Opinion

Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton are doing a wonderful job of trying to protect our rights and our state. I’m thankful to them and the Texas Legislature for their stand for religious liberty. Two years ago, they voted to allow the national motto “In God We Trust” to be placed in our schools. Now they have voted to put “The Ten Commandments” on the walls and restored the right to pray and read the Bible back in our schools.

And thank goodness, they extended the state’s ban on DEI initiatives K-12 and made it easier for parents to decide what they want in school libraries. All in all, it seems that Texans want God and the liberties that our forefathers fought for back in our public schools.

They also banned certain countries from buying land in Texas. That seems a little late since China has already bought large properties close to military sites.

I’m grateful for the property tax relief bill which increased exemptions from $100,000 to $140,000 and increased homestead exemptions for people over 65 to $200,000. That may allow seniors to stay in their homes instead of having to sell them because of having to pay taxes. Now if they could just do something about insurance.

So many good bills passed that I think we might congratulate our reps and senators. Now if the U.S. Congress could do as well, we might have a chance of saving America.Billie Gorham
