Last quintuplet discharged from Las Palmas hospital NICU

The last of the baby quintuplets born in June has been discharged from Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare and will be home for the first family holiday.

El Paso new mom Theresa Troia, 36, had the quintuplets on June 3 via cesarean section. She named her babies: Kyla Rose, Joseph Anthony, Jaxon Thomas, Viviana Lily, and Isabella Gianna.

Her delivery marked the hospital system’s first-ever quintuplet birth.

Troia’s babies have been coming home on a staggered schedule. Her first baby Kyla Rose came home on July 29, followed by Jaxon and Isabella on Aug. 11, and then Joseph on Aug. 22, so she said she feels complete having her babies all finally home. Viviana Lily was the last baby to come home on Nov. 17.

“The feeling is surreal, like I finally felt complete. I was excited to have all of them. I’m overjoyed cause you’re always missing that one and are worried; so, it’s been absolutely amazing,” Troia said.

To mark the discharge of the last baby, the NICU team at Las Palmas Medical Center held a graduation ceremony to celebrate the quintuplets’ highly anticipated homecoming and the incredible care that helped them all get home.

Troia may not have been too surprised at having multiple babies. She herself is a quadruplet. Troia has three brothers, Joseph Troia, Matthew Troia and Thomas Troia.

“To me, the normal is multiples, you know, because I don’t obviously know any different, but it was nice growing up and always having a sibling there,” Theresa Troia told Good Morning America.

She also expressed the joy of becoming a mom of multiples after having lost her mother 10 years ago. Troia, a nurse consultant, said she didn’t undergo any fertility treatments and is no longer in a relationship with her former partner.

Troia said she has had help from family and friends and is getting adjusted to having all her babies home. She said the last baby quickly picked up on the multiples’ feeding schedule.

Each baby is a little different, she says.

And while feedings are a little tough to handle on her own, Troia is happy and looking forward to celebrating some firsts with her babies.

“I already started a tradition that my mom used to do. My mom gave us our own special day since we were named after saints. So whatever the saint’s birthday is of our special day she would celebrate us. So I already did that with Kyla on Oct. 1,” she said. “We had a party and it was fun.”

Troia said she also wants to do holiday traditions like taking the babies for Santa photos, and as they get older, writing Santa letters and opening a gift on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day.
