Thanksgiving Day has been held on the fourth Thursday in November since 1941, according to the Farmers Almanac.
“(This) means that the date of the holiday shifts each year,” the almanac stated. “The date of Thanksgiving shifts annually based on the calendar, and while it can fall as early as November 22, it is fixed on the fourth Thursday of the month, making November 27th a relatively late, but normal, occurrence.”
Thanksgiving was on its latest possible date in 2024. The date of the feast can differ based on leap years, which happened in 2024. The next time we’ll see a Thanksgiving on the latest date will be in 2030.
Throughout the next few years, the holiday will continue to move up. In 2029, Thanksgiving will be on the earliest day on Nov. 22.
