Canyon police release details on bomb threat reported at Wal-Mart

The Canyon Police Department released information about a bomb threat reported over the weekend and a person who was arrested on a false alarm charge.

Canyon police said officers responded about 5:20 p.m. Oct. 17 to the Canyon Wal-Mart, located at 1701 N 23rd St., for a bomb threat after an employee found a written note and reported it to the police.

Officers arrived and began working with Wal-Mart management to determine the credibility of the threat. A decision was made by authorities to not evacuate the store while the investigation continued. While police and employees searched the store, other officers reviewed security footage at the scene.

The suspect was later found and identified as Melena LaFuente, a 21 year-old Canyon resident. CPD said after further investigation, she was booked into the Randall County jail on a charge for false alarm or report, a Class A misdemeanor.
